How Super Eagles Onazi Chased A Robber And Hands Him Over To The Cops In Rome

Ahead of tomorrow's crucial match in Ethopia, one man making the headline and i am sure he will be on the pitch .Super Eagles/Lazio midfielder Eddy Onazi is the talk of Rome after chasing down a robber and handing him over to local cops, Sugar Sport Reports.

There was no way the Nigerian star was going to let a local villain get away with stealing from a Rome tourist.

“I was having dinner with my brother near the Termini Station and there were some tourists sitting next to us,” Onazi told Lazio Style Radio after the story hit the headlines.

“I saw a boy and immediately felt due to his suspicious behaviour that he wanted to steal something. I didn’t even have time to tell my brother that he had already snatched the tourist’s wallet and run off.

“I noticed it, so I ran after him, but stayed on the other side of the street. I ran for 300 metres, the robber left the wallet under a car, but I saw him.

“I chased him down and brought him back to the restaurant, avoiding the ire of the people around there. I told the restaurant owner to call the police and we brought the wallet back to the lady. She was in tears and thanked me, as the wallet was full of money.

The tweets which insulted Nigerian celebrities and in particular, Karen, over her breast implant, got the former Big Brother Africa winner angry and she made sure Yvonne got a taste of her bitter tongue.

The tweets also had some mention of her for former boo, Iyanya.

“I Still Want To Marry Genevieve Nnaji” – D’banj

Nigerian pop star, Dapo Oyebanji, (D’banj), has not given up hope of getting married to Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji. The ‘Entertainer’ crooner seems to still be in love with Genevieve and if he has his way, he will make her his wife.

The two of them were reported to be in a very serious relationship some years back when he featured the ‘Face of Range Rover’ model in his song, ‘Fall in Love’, where they exchanged real life kisses. But the relationship packed up like a badly arranged cards.

But now, D’banj believes he still has what it takes to marry her if she will give him the chance. This is what he said in a recent interview: “Apart from the fact that she (Genevieve Nnaji) is my friend, she has been a part of my success. There is no way you are going to tell my story that Genevieve’s name will not come up, because she featured in my biggest song of all time, ‘Fall in Love’.

I would love to have Genevieve as my wife. We never can tell what God plans for us in the future. I have studied her and I realize that anyone that has her as his woman has found himself a treasure. Just like the Bible says, any man who finds a wife finds a good thing.”

So sweet, and well said, D’banj. We wish you luck in your quest.

2014 world cup :Who will join Brazil in 2014 world cup

With the qualification campaign for the 2014 World Cup approaching its decisive stages, a number of teams will this week be looking to book their tickets for next year's tournament.

Hosts Brazil have already been joined by Asian representatives Japan, Australia, Iran and South Korea, European giants Netherlands and Italy, as well as USA, Costa Rica and Argentina.

Additionally, a number of nations from Africa, Europe, North America and South America can also seal qualification in the upcoming days.

In Group A of the Uefa qualifying campaign, Belgium are sitting in pole position to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, as a draw away against Croatia on Friday will be enough to see Marc Wilmots' star-studded squad through.

Elsewhere, Germany can secure top spot in Group C with a win over Republic of Ireland, while even a draw or a loss will suffice if second-placed Sweden fail to beat Austria.

In Group E, Switzerland are on the verge of qualifying for next year's competition, as a win over Albania would clinch top spot in their section. A draw could be enough for Ottmar Hitzfeld's man as well, but only if Iceland drop points against Cyprus, while defeat will only see them through if both Iceland and Slovenia fail to win.

Russia are the sole team from Group F that can qualify on Friday, but they will have to beat Luxembourg, while second-placed Portugal will have to lose against Israel in order for Fabio Capello and his men to seal their berth in Brazil.

Bosnia-Herzegovina will qualify for the World Cup from Group G if they beat Liechtenstein on Friday and Greece are beaten by Slovakia in Piraeus.

Finally, in Group I, reigning world champions Spain will seal the deal with a win over Belarus at Palma de Mallorca on Friday.

In South America, Colombia can wrap up qualification on Friday if they bag at least one point against Chile on Friday, while even a loss will do the trick if the game between Uruguay and Ecuador does not end in a draw.

Chile, meanwhile, will qualify with a win over the Colombians. Furthermore, the winner of the game betweenUruguay and Ecuador in Quito will advance, too.

In the Concacaf, Honduras can become the third team to qualify if they beat Costa Rica on Friday and Panama fail to beat Mexico.

Finally, this weekend also marks the first legs of the African play-offs, with Burkina Faso hosting Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire taking on Senegal, Ethiopia versus Nigeria, Tunisia against Cameroon and Ghana locking horns with Egypt.

Oceania representative New Zealand and Asian side Jordan will be closely monitoring the action in North- and South-America respectively, with the Intercontinental play-offs taking place in November.

(MUST READ) "I lost my virginity when i was eight" - Chris Brown Reveals..

Chris brown disclosed how he lost his virginity and how it made him a beast in the bedroom..with a recent interview with TheGuardian
Read Excerpts:

He lost his virginity when he was eight years old, to a local girl who was 14 or 15. Seriously? "Yeah, really. Uh-huh." He grins and chuckles. "It's different in the country." Brown grew up with a great gang of boy cousins, and they watched so much porn that he was raring to go. "By that point, we were already kind of like hot to trot, you know what I'm saying? Like, girls, we weren't afraid to talk to them; I wasn't afraid. So, at eight, being able to do it, it kind of preps you for the long run, so you can be a beast at it. You can be the best at it." (Now 24, he doesn't want to say how many women he's slept with: "But you know how Prince had a lot of girls back in the day? Prince was, like, the guy. I'm just that, today. But most women won't have any complaints if they've been with me. They can't really complain. It's all good.")

Jack Wilshere dimisses Manchester United Starlet playing for England

Wilshere against Januzaj playing for England
Jack Wilshere believes Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj should not be allowed to play for England.

The 18-year-old scored twice during his first Premier League start against Sunderland, while Roy Hodgson has revealed the Football Association is monitoring the situation of the Belgium-born midfielder.

Januzaj is also eligible for Croatia, Albania and Serbia but Wilshere has dismissed the idea of the midfielder playing next to him at Wembley.

"No, for me, if you are English, you are English, and you play for England," Wilshere told reporters. "The only people who should play for England are English people.

"If you've lived in England for five years, for me, it doesn't make you English. You shouldn't play. It doesn't mean you can play for that country.

"If I went to Spain and lived there for five years, I'm not going to play for Spain. For me an English player should play for England really."

Wilshere also believes a national team manager should also be from the same country, before highlighting the impact Fabio Capello had on his international career.

He added: "I think it's better if there is an Englishman [in charge], but don't get me wrong, Fabio Capello did a lot for my England career.

"He brought me here, gave me my debut and stuck with me form a young age, so he was a good manager as well."

Aviation Minister Replies FFK...You Are An Ignorant Individual Who Should Bury His Head In Shame

It all started when Mr Fani Kayode asked the president to sack the Minister of Aviation because of the plane mishaps we have had during her tenure. He said, ''How many more people have to be killed in air crashes before our President GEJ realises that he needs a new Minister of Aviation''. Meanwhile, the minister, Stella Oduah who addressed journalists few days back, described the plane crash as an act of God. FFK felt that was not true, he took to twitter to tell her his God does not perform such acts. Tired of FFK's statements about her, the minister decided to fire back at him yesterday. And guess what FFK already replied her. Read what she said below and FFK's reply to her.

Oduah; Fani-Kayode was misleading innocent Nigerians and needed sympathy. “I have huge sympathy for them, the ignorant people in particular. Because when you speak out of context, when you speak under the influence of whatever it is you are under, you speak incorrectly and you mislead innocent Nigerians and that is what he has done. And he really should hide his head in shame.”

Fani-Kayode; My advice and counsel to her is to grow up and stop being petty. She is meant to talk like someone who befits her office and not like a market woman or a fish wife.I do not like joining issues with women publicly which is why I was very gentle with her in my essay though I made my point.
But this particular woman is endangering the lives of our people with her incompetence and insensitivity and we cannot just keep quiet. This is a woman under whose watch almost 200 people have been killed as Aviation Minister and instead of focusing on how to save lives her obsession has become smearing and abusing Femi Fani-Kayode. He said it was wrong for the minister to tell Nigerians that ‘’accidents are inevitable’’ and that they were ‘’acts of God. This is a woman who thinks more about how her headscarf looks, her jewelry and the jewelry of others more than she does about protecting Nigerian air travellers,” he added. He said if anyone should bury her head in shame it should be the minister and not him.

Oba Who Was Accused Of Rape By A Female NYSC Member Freed

The Alowa of Ilowa-Ijesa, Oba Adebukola Alli who was accused of rape by Miss Helen Okpar, a corper who was serving in his community as been discharged and acquitted. Helen dragged the Oba to court three years ago after claiming he sexually abused her. However, The Osun State High Court sitting in Ikirun on Tuesday said that the plaintiff, Miss Helen Okpara, failed to tender enough exhibits to convince the court beyond reasonable doubt that she was raped by the monarch.

The judge also held that the plaintiff, who accused the monarch of raping her at his private residence in Osogbo, failed to prove that she was raped. He said a case of rape could only be established with exhibits such as:

bed sheet
the victim’s pant and
a medical report indicating forceful penetration.
Adding that the prosecutor failed to tender all of the above. Okpara also failed to show the bruises on her private part as evidence that she was raped, the judge said. He further said the prosecutor failed to show to the court the plaintiff’s torn clothes as she had claimed in her submissions before the court. While stressing that a case of rape must be proved with injuries sustained on the private part as well as other parts of the body, Falola said the court was not convinced that Okpara sustained any injury.

Falola said the court was able to establish the fact that Okpara and the monarch had been having regular sexual relationship before a misunderstanding ensued between them.
He, however, condemned such relationship involving a traditional ruler, saying his action had brought his stool into disrepute as well as disgrace to his family and community.

Michael Jackson's Brother, Jermaine Jackson Slammed With $3,750/month Child Support Suit

Micheal Jackson’s big bro, Jermaine Jackson has just been served with a garnishment order by his baby mama, Alejandra Jackson for delay in child support. This comes just hours after he purchased a brand new 2009 Ferrari California for $160,000.

According to reports, Jermaine might be paying off $3,000 – $3,750 per month and an additional $750 for past due. The order obtained allows the Government to withhold up to $3,750 from his wages for monthly support as well as his future wages to cover the $3000 a month.

Unfortunately for him, his ex, Alejandra Jackson, had recurring problems getting child support from him. So, this might not be good for his finances. Reports from TMZ claim, Katherine Jackson is still pissed off at her son for paying $70,000 in cash for the car and even traded his Rolls Royce for $90K when he couldn’t pay off his debts.

FFK responds to Aviation Minister, calls her market woman, fish wife

Former minister of Aviation Femi Fani Kayode has responded to the current minister of Aviation Ms. Stella Oduah who yesterday described him as an ignorant individual, who “should hide his head in shame.” after he called for her resignation following Thursday's crash...

Mrs Stella Oduah said:

"I have huge sympathy for them, the ignorant people in particular. Because when you speak out of context, when you speak under the influence of whatever it is you are under, you speak incorrectly and you mislead innocent Nigerians and that is what he has done. And he really should hide his head in shame.” Femi Fani Kayode's response below...

Stella Oduah made some comments about me today (yesterday) which were uncalled for, malicious and petty. She reportedly said that I should ''bow my head in shame'', suggested that I was ''speaking out of context'' in my essay where I called for her resignation and that I spoke under some ''influence of something or other''. My advice and counsel to her is to grow up and stop being petty. She is meant to talk like someone who befits her office and not like a market woman, a fish wife or a creature from a Parisian bordello. Which one be Parisian bordello again? Lol. This man sef. Please continue...
I do not like joining issues with women publiclly which is why I was very gentle with her in my essay though I made my point. This is a woman who only yesterday told Nigerians that ''accidents are inevitable'' and that they were ''acts of God''. This is a woman who thinks more about how her headscarf looks, her jewellry and the jewellry of others more than she does about protecting Nigerian air travellers

If anyone should bury her head in shame it is her and not me. After just under 200 of our fellow citizens have been killed under her watch instead of abusing her critics and those of us that have expressed our concern and offered our advise she should be seeking repentance from God and tendering her resignation. She should be attempting to encourage the Nigerian people and assuage their fears rather than indulging in petty and cheap sideshots and an futile press war. Instead of comforting the families of those that were lost she is opening her mouth and abusing me. What a shame. Under her tenure we have beautiful terminals but deadly and blood soaked skies. Our skies have become a death trap because she really doesn't care.

My advice to her is to shut up, get serious and focus on doing her job rather than attempting to smear me with her filthy lies and malicious innuendos. I raised some serious issues in that essay that were clearly above her education level and I avoided personal insults. That is what civilsed people do. She should learn from that and address the issues that were raised rather than spend her time trying to kill the messanger. When someone says that God is the author of fatal crashes you know that it is not the same God that we worship as that person. It is the devil that causes accidents and kills people and not God. You can say that a fatal accident is an act of God only if the devil is your god. When I speak and write I am under the influence of one thing and one thing alone- the Spirit of the Living God who sees through her and who knows her for what she is.

She is the one that is under the influence of one thing or the other and not me. She is the one whose hands are filled with blood. She is the one that must bury her head in shame and no-one else. I will pray for her because she needs it and I will pray for Nigeria to. May God deliver us from this vampire Minister.

Kris And Bruce Jenner Separate!

Kris And Bruce Jenner Separate!

Kris and Bruce Jenner go separate ways after 22 years of marriage. The couple has moved into separate homes as a solution to their rumored marital troubles. Both however, feel happy about the decision and say they ‘are much happier this way’.

According to E_Online, the couple’s marital trouble has been shadowing for months but the family has kept a unified front in shutting those stories down. From the recent Keeping Up With The Kardashian show, Bruce Jenner now stays in a different house the couple rented in Malibu.

Kris Jenner, on April 21st, celebrated their 22nd anniversary with a sweet post on Instagram, “Happy Anniversary Bruce!!!! Best 22 years I could ever have imagined…hope the next 22 is even more fabulous… I love you!” Guess that ‘love’ couldn’t keep them together just 6 months after.

The two share two daughters together, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and each have four children from previous marriages. However, Khloe Kardashian had denounced the separation rumors at an earlier appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno saying, “They’re not having problems, but they still like to live apart, which is definitely different,” she said. “You know, Bruce and my mom, they wanted some… In my house there is a man room for Lamar Odom. A room, not a different house. So I think they took my idea and ran with it. They got another house and Bruce stays there sometimes.” Both still insist it’s for the better and will keep loving and respecting each other as well as their children despite the paparazzi reports, “We will always have much love and respect for each other. Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority. These kind of stories have been circulating for the last couple of years…

Is Cossy Orjiakor A Born Again Christian Now?

It seems sometime singer, actress and Nigeria’s Queen of Boobs, Cossy Orjiakor is now a born again Christian. This much has been whispered to us by some insiders who say the lady that has continuously held us spell bound with her dress sense, show of breasts and many controversies has really simmered down and has done away with the bad girl toga.

An insider say Cossy is drawing close to God every day, attending church services, programs, fasting and praying faithfully. While some close people say she is really serious about turning her life around, others believe that age is no longer on her side and she has gotten to the point where she seriously needs to settle down with a man, hence her ‘born again’ attitude.

Well, there is nothing God cannot do but hope it is not just a smokescreen in preparation for another shocker. Remember the proverb about a Leopard and its skin?

“Iyanya Will Not End Well” – Yvonne Nelson

It is apparent that Ghanaian star actress, Yvonne Nelson, is still very bitter over her split with Nigerian singer, Iyanya Mbuk. The Nollywood actress is not in a hurry to forgive the ‘Kukere’ crooner for hurting her after she spent over 8 months of her life dating him, giving him her ‘waist’ and love. She is angry that after all she did for him, Iyanya still had the heart to leave her. The distraught Yvonne further said that her ex-lover will not end well if he continues breaking ladies’ hearts.

“Iyanya needs to be more honest and be a man of his words. It’s not good if he keeps taking advantage of women. My mum always says any man who takes advantage of women won’t end up well. It’s called Karma; it’s going to come back to you. He will not end well,” the heart-broken Yvonne said. She further advised the ‘Your Waist’ singer to “treat women fairly and be an honest person.”

Mr and Mrs Radamael Falcao Set to leave Monaco

AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao is ready to return to Spain and sign with Real Madrid.

However, the Colombia international is likely to play out the season with ASM before pushing to leave for Madrid in the summer.

Punto Pelota says Falcao has told his agent, Jorge Mendes, of his plans with his wife failing to settle in Monaco and pining for a return to Madrid.

Real president Florentino Perez did attempt to sign Falcao in the summer, just months after he had joined ASM from Atletico Madrid. However, the drawn out negotiations with Tottenham for Gareth Bale forced Perez to shelve the outlandish plan.

Liverpool Skipper Stephen Gerrad Blames Influx of Foreigners in EPL for deterioration

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes the influx of foreigners is making it more difficult for English youngsters to make the Premier League breakthrough.

FA chairman Greg Dyke stated his concern over the amount of imports into the Barclays Premier League in his first major speech last month and announced the setting up of a commission to look into the problem of dwindling English players in the top flight.

"Managers are only ever eight to 10 days away from the sack so to take risks on unknown young players is difficult," Gerrard told BBC Breakfast.

"I mean (Liverpool manager) Brendan Rodgers has been fantastic at this club because he's been brave and he's given young players a chance.

"But there's no two ways about it, it's a lot more difficult to break through nowadays because of the standard of players and because there is a lot more foreigners about.

Segun Arinzes Rubbishes Fellow Actor Jim Iyke Deliverance

It is either some people have not experienced spiritual problems in their life before or are carrying their own big problems around and don't believe in the miracle of deliverance. I wonder why Segun Arinze would suggest that Prophet TB Joshua paid Jim Iyke for a fake show?
Below is how Segun Arinze rubbished Jim Iyke's deliverance:

"This Jim Iyke's deliverance video at the Synagogue trending looks too contrived. It's a big embarrassment. Has anyone ever seen demons come out live and speak?
Una fit stand demons? Una carry Nollywood enter Church, abi? How much did he get paid? I'm just wondering. Make una stop all these nonsense play. Haba. Stranger than fiction!"

Photo: Men that stole PAsuma Wonder Car

The police in Lagos State have arrested three men suspected of being part of the gang that robbed popular Fuji musician, Pasuma, of his Range Rover SUV and other valuables about four months ago.

Pasuma might have cause to heave a sigh of relief as the three men were apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the Ikeja area of Lagos.

The leader of the gang simply, identified as Ade, reportedly bought a Toyota Camry car, with his own share of all they got from Pasuma and the sale of his Range Rover.

Pasuma was, in May 2013, robbed of his SUV and an undisclosed sum at gun point at the Amadiyah area of Lagos. Asides robbing the musician who was on his way to a function, the gang also abducted him and one of his aides, drove a distance before dropping them off at a boarder town in Ogun State.

The suspects - Fatai Balogun, Wale Akinjobi and Gbenga Kolawole during interrogation, confessed to have come to Lagos all the way from Ogun state to operate.

In his confession, Fatai said leader of the gang, Ade, got the highest share from Pasuma’s loot. “He was the one who searched Pasuma and collected money from him. But nobody knew the amount he got. Few days later, he bought a Toyota Camry car with the loot but gave us peanuts."

FG SET FOR NATIONAL CONFERENCE

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the membership and terms of reference of the Federal Government’s Advisory Committee on National Dialogue/ Conference.

A terse statement on Tuesday night in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, named a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, as one of the 13 members of the committee headed by Senator Femi Okurounmu.

Others are Dr. Akilu Indabawa,Secretary; a former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Prof. George Obiozor; Senator Khairat Gwadabe; Senator Timothy Adudu, Col. Tony Nyiam (retd), Prof. Funke Adebayo, Dr. Mairo Amshi, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq, Alhaji Dauda Birma, Mallam Buhari Bello and Mr. Tony Uranta.

The committee which has one month within which to conclude its assignment, will be inaugurated by Jonathan at the State House on October 7.

The committee’s terms of reference are: consult expeditiously with all relevant stakeholders with a view to drawing up a feasible agenda for the proposed national dialogue/conference; make recommendations to government on structure and modalities for the proposed national dialogue/conference; and make recommendations on how representation of various interest groups at the national dialogue/conference will be determined.

It is also to advise the government on a time frame for the national dialogue/conference; its legal framework, legal procedures and options for integrating decisions and outcomes of the national conference into the constitution; and advise the government on any other matters that may be related or incidental to the conference.

Jonathan had in his Independence Day broadcast on Tuesday, said he decided to set up the advisory committee to establish the modalities for the national dialogue or conference.

“I expect the report to be ready in one month, following which the nation will be briefed on the nomenclature, structure and modalities of the dialogue/ conference,” he had added.

The announcement was well received by the pan-northern socio-cultural organisation , the Arewa Consultative Forum, the Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Ijaw National Congress and the two Peoples Democratic Party factions.

Although the Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the INC and the PDP factions in their separate reactions did not give conditions for supporting dialogue, the ACF did.

The ACF advised against the dialogue taking the form of a Sovereign National Conference.

The ACF National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani, told one of our correspondents in Kaduna, that an SNC would amount to a vote of no confidence in the nation’s democracy and its institutions.

He added that the forum had nothing much to say at “this formative stage of the committee until when the name, content, shape and scope of the dialogue are made public.”

Sani said, “When I am asked to react to Mr President’s decision to set up a committee on how to organise a national dialogue as to the appropriate name, scope, content and direction, I begin to wonder what to say.

“You would note that ACF has made it clear that it is not opposed to a national dialogue so long as the aim is to strengthen the unity and diversity of this country, since the concept of nationhood presupposes that the people can come together and unleash their synergy by living up to collective challenges for public good, provided such a dialogue is not in the form of SNC that amounts to a vote of no confidence in our democracy and its institutions, which no group has the right to do.”

Both Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo said they were ready to make submissions to the committee once invited.

Afenifere advised that the proposed national dialogue should focus on true federalism so that the issue of allocation of the country’s resources could be well tackled.

Its Secretary, Chief Seinde Arogbofa, in an interview with one of our correspondents, said, “We don’t have to pre-empt the terms of reference of the committee. We must appreciate the head of state for allowing Nigerians to talk about our problems.

“We should be talking about issues of security, youth unemployment and the right structure. We believe that with a true federal system, all other things will automatically fall into place. The issue of resources will be taken care of if we have the right federal structure.”

The Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, told one of our correspondents that “all peace-loving Nigerians must commend” Jonathan for the initiative.

He said, “He has pulled Nigeria back from the brink. Jonathan has saved Nigeria by choosing a forum for talking rather than shooting. It is a welcome deviation from the past when former Presidents were foot-dragging on the issue.

“Let us restart our association envisaged in the 1914 amalgamation statement. Let us kick- start the system so that all Nigerians can very truthfully say they are Nigerians.”

The Ohanaeze secretary general said the national conference would “ bring an end to the abracadabra in the country since 1966,” since it would give the people the opportunity to “discuss and say how we are to relate with one another.”

Also, the INC advised that the national conference should be used as an opportunity to discuss all the problems affecting the unity of the country.

The spokesman for the congress, Mr. Victor Borubo, said there should be no limitations to what should be discussed when the national dialogue eventually holds.

He said that resource control, devolution of power, structure of the country and issues on the Exclusive and Residual lists should be among the things that should be discussed at the conference.

Borubo added, “There should be no limitation to what should be discussed at the conference as we expect those to represent Nigerians to discuss devolution of power, structure of the country, resource control and issues on the exclusive and residual list.

The NLC, through its Secretary-General, Mr. Chris Uyot, said, “We applaud the President for seeing the need for a conference because we believe in participatory and inclusive government.

“Any form of dialogue or discussion points to a positive and an inclusive government and we support it. We think it is a good idea which should be encouraged.”

Also, the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP said the President had through the decision demonstrated that he derived his mandate from Nigerians.

It hailed the President for anchoring the theme of the independence day broadcast on the road map to a secure future for the nation, which it said was not only unique but an eloquent expression of his determination to bequeath a transformed Nigeria.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary , Chief Olisa Metuh, said by taking a definite stand on national dialogue and setting up a committee led by Sen. Femi Okurounmu to fashion out the structure and modalities for the conference, the President has shown he is a listening leader.

The statement reads in part, “Nigerians listened to their President as he humbly relegated accomplishments and beating of the chest. We saw the President assuming the place of an ordinary Nigerian, in his pains, fears and uncertainty about the future. This is very commendable.

“We are pleased that the President listens and leaves Nigerians in no doubt that their opinions matter.

Also, the New PDP led by Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, said there should no-go areas in the work of the committee.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, in an email to one of our correspondents, said, “We see the clamour for a national dialogue as timely and appropriate as there is an urgent need for Nigerians to come together and discuss matters affecting them as well as the way forward.

“We, therefore, welcome Mr. President’s announcement in his Independence Day broadcast about the establishment of a committee to advise him on the modalities for the holding of the conference,” the New PDP said.

CBN bans importation of Foreign Currency

Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
The Central Bank of Nigeria, in a bid to save the naira from foreign exchange pressure, has banned the importation of all foreign currencies.

The bank said, henceforth, no individual, group of persons or investors would be allowed to bring any type of foreign currency into the country without its approval.

The bank disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, CBN, Dr. Sarah Alade, said in the statement that the move was aimed at saving the naira and the economy from external threats and dominance.

She said, “In its determination to save the naira and the Nigerian economy from external threats and dominance, the CBN has banned the importation of all foreign currencies, except with the approval of the CBN.

“The latest move is sequel to the bank’s withdrawal of the operating licences of 20 Bureaux de Change found to have purchased and sold huge sums of United States’ dollars with no documentation to show details of the transactions.”

Alade said the bank was worried about the existence of strong foreign exchange demand pressures from domestic sources, which were not necessarily linked to increase in the import of goods and services.

She said the management of the CBN also observed the surge in dollar cash importation by Deposit Money Banks and the huge cash sale of the dollar to the BDCs by the DMBs.

While noting that the country currently ranked as the largest importer of US dollars, she said the purchase and sale of the currency was not adequately being documented by the BDCs.

Alade said if the trend was not contained, it could pose grave threats to the value of the naira as well as the Nigerian economy, which she said had gradually become dollarised.

She said the CBN Governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, and his team had decided to take an immediate action to safeguard the naira and ensure its stability in the face of the aforementioned challenges.

Sanusi had on September 24, shortly after the 234th Monetary Policy Committee Meeting, said the CBN would do everything possible to defend the naira and ensure its stability, including using the nation’s foreign reserves to achieve the purpose.

He had said, “As far as the naira is concerned, we have always said we are committed to its stability. I have not heard any economic argument that there is any economic value in devaluing our currency.

“My view and that of the CBN is that if we need to tighten money, use some of our reserves to support the economy, we will. No central bank governor will say he will support the currency at all costs.

“But we want to be very clear that there is no country that allows its currency to just be determined by the market. We are not looking for a stronger currency, neither are we looking at a weaker one. People want to pay fees and investors want to know if they will have returns on investments.

Casillas back as Real look for European response

..
Madrid (AFP)Bernabeu in nearly nine months when Los Blancos host FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Casillas has lost his place in the side to Diego Lopez since breaking a bone in his hand in January, but coach Carlo Ancelotti has opted to play the Spanish number one in the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
The 32-year-old has played just 15 minutes of competitive action so far this season after being forced off with a rib injury early in Madrid's 6-1 win away to Galatasaray on matchday one, but has recovered in time to take his place between the posts against the Danish champions.
Despite their incredible start to their European campaign, Madrid are under some pressure to bounce back from their 1-0 derby defeat to Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
That result left Ancelotti's men five points behind Atletico and Barcelona in La Liga and the Italian's tactics and substitutions were heavily criticised after Real created little of note against their city rivals.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo defended his new boss afterwards and said the responsibility lies with the players to perform better.
"There are new players and new ideas, but the coach is doing a phenomenal job," he told reporters.
"He is a great person and a great coach. This doesn't have anything to do with him, the responsibility is ours.
"I don't think we are doing so badly, we have only lost one game, but hopefully we can improve."
Gareth Bale has been left out of Ancelotti's 21-man squad for the game.
